The Transit Software Hatchery
Creating a Public Option for Public Transit Providers
The Problem
Transit software is broken right now. It's old. It's proprietary. It's shitty.
Examples:
- Find a GTFS library that's had a meaningful edit in the last year: https://gtfs.org/resources/producing-data/#gtfs-libraries
- This is the industry standard in North America to simulate mainline rail ops: https://berkeleysimulation.com/rtc.php
The Process
- Make an issue with the idea
- Give it a few weeks to roominate
- Make a PR with a new repo with the .md files for the plan
- Build it!
General Guidelines
- Everything should be open source
- Be kind
- Be a rider of trains and buses
- Trains go wheeee
Eggs
